Dr. J. Elton Moore was named a W.L. Giles Distinguished Professor and Dr. Rodney A. Pearson was selected a 2001-2002 John Grisham Master Teacher during the recent Alumni Association Faculty Recognition Program.

Moore is director of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Counselor Education.

He is a former member of the board of trustees for the American Foundation for the Blind and was recognized in 1991 as a Mary Switzer Fellow by the National Rehabilitation Association.

A Giles Distinguished Professorship is the highest academic honor the university can bestow on a faculty member. The awards, named for MSU's 13th president, are based on research, scholarship, outstanding teaching and service.

Pearson is a professor of management and information systems in the College of Business and Industry. He received a cash award and is responsible for conducting workshops and other instructional improvement activities for faculty colleagues.

He earned three degrees from the University of Mississippi and a doctorate from Harvard University.

In 2001, Pearson won both the Alumni Association Lower Level Teaching Award and COBI's Outstanding Service Teacher Award. He earned the college's Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award in 1999.

Grisham Master Teacher Awards are named for the best-selling novelist who graduated from MSU in 1977.
