Dr. Jacquelyn Deeds is receiving the Outstanding Agricultural Educator Award of the Southern Region American Association of Agricultural Education.
Deeds, a professor of agricultural information science and education at Mississippi State, was recognized for her teaching, research and outreach in the field of agricultural education.
She joined the MSU faculty in 1985, becoming a full professor in 1997.
Deeds has advised the Society for Agricultural Leadership and chaired the College of Agriculture and Home Economics' Committee on Courses and Curriculum.
She is a past chair of the MSU President's Commission on the Status of Women and president of MSU's Gamma Sigma Delta, the agriculture honor society. She has served on the National Future Farmers of America board of directors and the FFA Foundation board of trustees.
The 2003 award is the second time AAAE has honored Deeds. In 1996, she received the distinguished teaching award for the region. She also served as a regional vice president and conference chair, as well as a national secretary for three years.
Deeds holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Oregon State University and a doctorate from Ohio State University.
