Parking changes in effect for game days

With one home football game down and five to go, the university has made some changes in its parking, picnicking and tailgating policies.

Two parking spots have been lost-the Lee/McCain lot is undergoing renovation and the spaces around Lee Hall are now part of a pedestrian area. To help compensate, additional reserved parking lots for Bulldog Club members have been added, as well as more parking for persons with disabilities. Handicap parking has been expanded to west of Davis Wade Stadium, in addition to spots near Memorial Hall and on Darden Avenue.

As in the past, several large lots are open to parking and tailgating by anyone for a $10 and $5 per vehicle fee. Other lots on the periphery of campus are free and open for parking and tailgating, and anyone may park across Highway 82 at the Research and Technology Park and catch a free shuttle ride to the stadium.

There are a number of areas that are roped off for "picnicking only" on a first-come, first-served basis. Because some fans like to set up tents or tables and chairs before the game, the picnic areas will be available for occupancy after 5 p.m. the day before a game. No vehicles or trailers of any kind will be allowed in these picnicking-only areas.

Because construction on Highway 12 may bottleneck traffic, state Department of Transportation officials are helping by widening the west lane to two lanes. The incoming east lane will remain one lane until construction is completed. MDOT officials also expect the Highway 25 bypass-to open some time in late September-will help with traffic congestion.

This year, faculty and staff members who must work on a game day may park in the east Allen Hall parking lot. To gain admittance, workers must present a faculty/staff decal and university identification card.

The complete parking and picnicking policy, along with a color-coded map of the campus showing parking areas, picnicking areas, restricted areas, and traffic routes, is available on the Internet at http://msuinfo.ur.msstate.edu/parking/ .
