PCSW honors top women
Eight outstanding campus and community women are being recognized for their accomplishments March 24 by the President's Commission on the Status of Women.
A reception in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library is scheduled 3-5 p.m. to honor the recipients of the commission's annual awards. Women are recognized in each MSU employment category, in graduate and undergraduate categories and in Mississippi.
In addition, a commemorative plaque naming the outstanding undergraduate woman award will honor former commission member Jan Batchelder, who died last year.
The 2004 Outstanding Women Awards' recipients include:
-- Outstanding Mississippi Woman-Dr. Frances Lucas
-- Outstanding Graduate Woman-Paula Warren
-- Bettye Douglas Memorial-Outstanding Secretarial/Clerical Woman-Tracy Britt
-- Jan Batchelder Memorial-Oustanding Undergraduate Woman-Jennifer Phillips
-- Outstanding Professional Non-Faculty Woman-Glenna Sullivan
-- Outstanding Service/Maintenance Woman-Doris Carr
-- Outstanding Executive, Administrative, Managerial Woman-Cynthia Hemphill
-- Outstanding Faculty Woman-Dr. Jeralynn Cossman
The commission was created in the late 1970s to advise the university president on issues affecting the status and role of women on campus. In more than two decades, it has continued to provide informational and educational programs to address concerns of women at the university.
