DigiTop databases: new and expanded

Thanks to the DigiTop Demonstration Plus Project, there are now seven new or expanded databases available to the MSU research community: Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts, BIOSIS Previews, CAB Abstracts, Food Science and Technology Abstracts, GEOBASE, TreeCD, and Wildlife & Ecology Studies WorldWide.

The DigiTop Demonstration Plus Project is a collaboration between the MSU Libraries and the National Agricultural Library. All seven DigiTop databases are available through the Library's online indexes and databases website, and support access to electronic journals through the Library's SFX journal service.

Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts is a collection of five online abstracts: Biological Sciences & Living Resources, Ocean Technology, Policy and Nonliving Resources, Aquatic Pollution and Environmental Policy, Aquaculture Abstracts, and Marine Biotechnology Abstracts. ASFA is produced by the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Information System and provides one of the world's premier marine and freshwater research databases. BIOSIS Previews is produced by Thomson BIOSIS and is an electronic version of Biological Abstracts and Biological Abstracts/RRM (Reports, Reviews, Meetings.) CAB Abstracts is now available through the EBSCO interface and indexes material back to 1973. CAB Abstracts includes research and development literature in the fields of agriculture, forestry, aspects of human health, human nutrition, animal health, and the management and conservation of natural resources.

Food Science and Technology Abstracts is produced by the International Food Information Service and provides an extensive collection of abstracts drawn from the world's food science, food technology, and food-related human nutrition literature. GEOBASE is produced by Elsevier and provides indexing and abstracting for literature in the areas of oceanography, physical geography, geology, geomechanics, human geography, international development, and ecology. TreeCD is produced by CABI International and is the world's leading bibliographic database for forest and wood science research. Wildlife & Ecology Studies WorldWide is produced by the National Information Services Corp. and indexes the world's literature on wild mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Coverage includes wildlife behavior and management, studies of individual species, habitat, economics, hunting parasites, and diseases.

Additional information on the DigiTop Plus databases, as well as the more than 70 electronic journals, will be presented at the "DigiTop Update: Databases and E-Journals" workshop, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 24. To register for the workshop, visit the library's workshop Web site at http://library.msstate.edu/workshops/databasics.asp .

Additional assistance using these or any of the library's indexes and databases may be obtained from the Reference Department, located on the second floor of Mitchell Memorial Library. Users also may e-mail reference@library.msstate.edu or telephone 325-7667 for assistance.
