Joint band concert set

The Mississippi State University Symphonic and Starkville/MSU Community bands are combining their talents for a Tuesday, March 1, concert.

The free 7:30 p.m. performance in McComas Hall theater will blend “pops” and traditional tunes. The program is the two groups’ first collaboration of the 2005 season.

The community band’s performance will feature trombone soloist Richard Human, an assistant professor in the university’s Music Education Department.

The 60-member MSU Symphonic Band regularly performs selections from the traditional to contemporary.

Now in its second year, the Starkville/MSU Community Band includes both MSU students and residents from throughout the Golden Triangle area, as well as from Tupelo, Philadelphia, and Kosciusko. The nearly 100-member group is a joint venture between MSU’s band program and Division of Continuing Education.
